Virgin Money Giving Mind Media Awards – Facebook Live

On Monday the 14th of November, Karma was asked to live stream to Facebook the Virgin Money Giving Mind Media Awards. This event took place at The Troxy, with Freddie Flintoff as Master of Ceremonies, and celebrates the best examples of reporting and portrayal of mental health in print, broadcast and digital media.

After completing both a pre-stream stream tunnel test and a technical recce, our production and live stream teams set up the morning of the shoot with two technical rehearsals taking place.

Using three manned camera’s – one wide, one close-up, one follow cam and an unmanned Master wide, alongside one of our portable production units (PPU). We took an audio feed from splits of the onstage microphones  and with a video feed coming from the computers powering the VT’s we vision mixed the shoot to create a broadcast quality production.

Our vision mix was then fed using fibre to a Satellite Uplink Truck, situated just outside the venue, which coupled with our Master Control Room ensured that the stream reached the two Facebook pages.

Results wise, the stream was a fantastic success, with over 20,000 views and high engagement levels on the night of the event, as well as retrospectively. The official hashtag #VMGMindAwards was also trending at number two in the UK on Twitter and there were many posts regarding the event on Instagram.

Once the Award Ceremony was over the winners, nominees, presenters and guests were invited for drinks and canapés, whilst our team performed a swift de-rig. Our onset DIT provided the client with a HD Recording of the event for them take home after and we headed back to our Twickenham Studios base to prepare for Tuesday’s shoots.

A fantastic evening which raises awareness for some really important issues and another successful live stream…
