Davina Trains the Nation – Video Production
Our good friends over at James Grant asked us to film a series of 15 “Train the Nation” workout videos with Davina McCall promoting Tesco’s F & F activewear.
The “Train the Nation” campaign ran from the 29th May to 2nd June 2017 and these pieces were broadcast in all of the advertising breaks on ITV’s “Lorraine,” with the aim to get the nation moving.
The spots ranged from 60 seconds to 3.5 minutes and were the equivalent of forty one 30 second slots. With less than four weeks to shoot and deliver, and with Karma providing full video production and post on the project, we had to move quickly.
Over a period of two days our team, led by our in-house Director Chris Hyde and Director of Photography Craig Herd, shot on three Sony F5 cameras, caputuring all of the workouts on multiple cameras over multiple takes.
During the videos, which were shot at Malcolm Ryan Studios, following a small intro and warm up Davina guided viewers through a series of short and simple exercises. These ranged from full body to more targeted workouts including arms, legs, bums and tums.
Each spot was unique with its own introduction, specific exercise and outro. In addition to this we filmed the picture in picture, pieces to camera with an autocue. This, in itself, raised another challenge as Davina had to time her script reading to perfection to match the exercises she had just completed.
Once shooting wrapped we were straight to our in-house edit suites where Karma began a five day offline edit schedule with three days of amends and client changes. Post production was completed with an online and grade using premiere pro and Davinci Resolve.
The TV spots were a great success and articles about the project featured in both Campaign magazine and in the national press. A fantastic project and it was great to be working with James Grant again, we are already looking forward to the next one…
